In India, millions make a living collecting and recycling discarded materials, providing vital waste management services and environmental benefits. Despite growing recognition, waste collectors often face low social status, poor living conditions, and minimal government support. Founded in September 2019 as the charitable arm of Plastics for Change, the Plastics for Change Foundation's primary goal is to provide dignified, sustainable economic opportunities to urban underprivileged individuals, improving their quality of life through social interventions.
THE PROBLEM & SOLUTION
Our model is replicable in areas with high plastic pollution, inadequate public waste management, and exploited waste collectors. In the existing informal sector, outdated technology leads to low-quality recycled granules, which the industry can't use due to inconsistency. By Leveraging technology to enhance plastic quality, we access lucrative markets and create livelihood opportunities, adding value across the global supply chain.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT
Plastics for Change recycles plastic debris into certified products, driving demand from corporate brands using our certification mark. Inadequate waste management leads to plastic ending up in rivers and the ocean. We formalize urban recycling, helping communities create waste management plans, offering stable employment, and improving living conditions for waste collectors.
